Daily Fantasy Sports Giant DraftKings Expands Their Reach by Adding Global Soccer to Their Offering
A larger range of sporting competitions are being made available to customers of the daily fantasy sports operator – DraftKings. They are set to explore fantasy sports in the world of soccer; they wish to expand to Europe and South America via this avenue.
American Company, DraftKings, headquartered in Boston, MA, is a fantasy sports operator. Their customers enter virtual teams into matches for a chance to win monetary prizes; the win is determined by the performance of actual teams and individual athletes. DraftKings works with five of the major American sports Leagues – Major League Baseball (MLB), National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) and National Hockey League (NHL); their partnership extends to Premier League and UEFA Champions League soccer, the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR), Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and American college football and basketball. Now they have announced plans to add UEFA Europa League and Liga Mexicana to this already impressive list.
The Europa League contests were launched last Thursday to concur with Liverpool Football Club’s first-leg match against Manchester United at the Anfield Stadium in Liverpool; this in addition with contests that are already available for the Barclays Premier League, UEFA Champions League and Major League Soccer give players more chance to win special experiences and cash prizes through the fantasy site.
The contests covering the Liga Mexicana will be held on a weekly basis. DraftKings stated, “The new addition to our product offering will further engage football fans in the most popular Latin American league.”
Jeffrey Haas, the chief international officer at DraftKings said, “Football, as we all know, is the world’s favourite sport.” The operator added, that the football offerings promise to make DraftKings a “truly global” company. Haas added, “We are increasing our product depth, adding more leagues and contests that appeal to our growing global market. We are proud to see so many daily fantasy football players using DraftKings as their second screen on match days to increase their engagement with and enjoyment of the sports they love.”
DraftKings has expanded its existing partnership with Opta Sports to provide these new services; Opta sports is subsidiary of sports data specialist Perform ,based in London, with offices all around Europe.
Angus McNab, vice president of content for North America for Perform is delighted with the broadening business relation with DraftKings; he stated, “Their customers can [now] enjoy an even greater breadth of competitions and contests.” He is particularly excited about the incorporation of Liga Mexicana and mentioned, “It gives fan another platform to explore the performances of the players in this league as well.”
