This year has been a busy one for DraftKings, with the company making a variety of changes that are sure to increase its reach in the years to come.
Recently, the company announced that it ha received a gaming license in the United Kingdom. With this in hand, the company will now be able to bring its popular daily fantasy sports games to a growing market.
The Wait is Almost Over
With a license to operate in the U.K., DraftKings will open its third office, this one in London, by the end of the year. Even more exciting is the fact that the company has every intention of being fully operational by the time the fourth quarter rolls around.
DraftKings Chief Executive Officer Jason Robins shared his excitement regarding the expansion, noting the following in the official announcement:
“Our expansion into the United Kingdom marks a milestone moment in the growth of DraftKings as we introduce our world-class product to new audiences. We will add new sports and games to our burgeoning roster of offerings and further connect fans to their favorite teams and players. We also welcome the opportunity to forge new partnerships with leagues, teams and media outlets internationally as we have done with exceptional success in the United States.”
As you can see, this is a win-win scenario for DraftKings as well as players in the new market. The company itself will benefit by gaining access to tens of millions of new players. It will also be in position to expand its lineup of games.
On the flipside, players in the U.K. will finally have the opportunity to get involved with one of the top names in the daily fantasy space.
Newly appointed Chief International Officer Jeffrey Haas knows that expansion outside of North America is critical to the future of the company. He added:
“Daily Fantasy Sports is a growing category outside North America, and we have a tremendous opportunity to engage sports fans around the world. We will look to maintain our leadership position in the Daily Fantasy Sports industry – creating innovative games across the most sports, providing our players with elite customer service and fostering mutually-beneficial relationships with our partners.”
To go along with this expansion, which is set to ramp up by the end of the year, DraftKings has made it clear that 2016 will bring more of the same. Next year, the company hopes to launch in additional markets, including but not limited to Latin America and Europe.
