Two states make progress on fantasy sports

Kansas and Pennsylvania about to legalize Fantasy Sports

Since the raise of popularity of Daily Fantasy Sports, more and more people decided to give it a try. However, it is still illegal in many states since it is considered a type of online gambling. But lawmakers in Kansas and Pennsylvania are keeping up with the popularity of this trend by legalizing it.

George Dunbar, a state representative in Pennsylvania introduced House Bill 1197, proposing to make the legalisation of DFS in all state-licensed land casinos. The bill has been passed to the state’s House Committee on Gaming Oversight. The expected that the bill will progress rapidly.

“Presently most fantasy sports tournaments take place on internet sites like Fanduel,” Dunbar wrote last week with hopes that the legislators will support the passing of the bill.
“My legislation will allow our casinos to hold their own fantasy tournaments within the confines of the casino upon payment of a $50,000 licensing fee.”

“The rules and regulations for this activity will be determined by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.”

The Kansas lawmakers are further on in the process. They have already passed by which the DFS status in Kansas is made legal. This bill had the support from Governor Sam Brownback. He signed the bill, which means it is now a law.
